Join us for tea, cake and conversation every second last Friday of the month between 3.00-4.00pm at KYN Bickley's Dementia Café. Kindly find the confirmed dates listed below.

The café is a relaxed informal space for people living with dementia, family, friends and supporters. Our aim is to provide an opportunity to meet local people living with dementia, to share experiences and find companionship.

KYN Bickley’s monthly Dementia Café is hosted by our Dementia Lead, Barry Moss, and provides a safe and supportive space for you to:

• Learn more about living with a diagnosis of dementia
• Find out more about how to live well with dementia
• Think about what it means for the future and how to plan ahead

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Dementia Care: A Person Centered Approach

We invite you to an insightful session with Dr Karan Jutla BSc (Hons), PhD, PG Cert HE, exploring the importance of person-centred dementia care and cultural inclusivity in supporting individuals and their families. Karan is a researcher and educator dedicated to promoting culturally inclusive dementia care. With over a decade of experience, she works closely with policymakers, care providers, and communities to improve support for people from diverse backgrounds. The session will cover key principles of dementia care, the impact of social and cultural factors, and practical approaches to providing inclusive, compassionate support.

Navigating Dementia for the First Time

In this welcoming session, Emma Hewat, Director of Dementia Care at KYN, will share her expertise to support those facing a dementia diagnosis for the first time. Whether you are supporting a friend or loved one or facing it yourself, this session provides insights and practical steps to help you feel informed and reassured. Emma will also share resources covering topics such as getting a diagnosis, carers’ assessments, CHC funding (and how to apply), changing relationships, and free access to Admiral Nurses.

Holistic Dementia Care: A Non-Pharmacological Showcase

In partnership with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, we are hosting a non-pharmacological showcase exploring innovative ways to support people living with dementia. Specialists from Symphony Hearing, Recreo VR, Musical Playgrounds, HUG by LAUGH, Playlist for Life, and Mobii Magic Surface will share how their approaches enhance wellbeing and enrich daily life.

Each session will include a networking opportunity with refreshments and canapés, offering a chance to connect with others affected by dementia or professionals working in the sector. It’s an opportunity to share experiences, insights, and support in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
