We take great pride in the collaboration between renowned BANT-registered Nutritionist, Eva Humphries, and the acclaimed Michelin-starred chef, Tristan Welch to ensure an outstanding level of culinary excellence at our home. Their expertise allows us to design menus that are not only nourishing but also delicious and healthy. In this blog, we are delighted to introduce you to Tristan, our Executive Chef, and to share more about his exceptional work at KYN.
Tristan's journey began in his hometown of Cambridge, where he had a chance to meet with culinary legend Gary Rhodes. Inspired by Rhodes' culinary artistry, Tristan pursued his dream relentlessly. His determination paid off when he was given an opportunity to work in Rhodes' kitchen, marking the start of a culinary adventure that would span over two decades.
Before his time with Gary Rhodes, Tristan's love for food was deeply ingrained. He recalls childhood memories of potting peas in the garden and discovering from a young age that cooking was his calling. Food Technology classes in secondary school further fuelled his passion, as he realised the joy of creating dishes that brought happiness to people.
Training alongside esteemed chefs like Michel Roux Jr. and Gordon Ramsay, he ventured from one prestigious kitchen to another. His career took him from Le Gavroche to Gordon Ramsay's Pétrus, where he played a pivotal role in elevating the restaurant to two Michelin stars. Tristan's unwavering pursuit of excellence eventually led him to the pristine shores of Mustique, where he cooked for some of the world's most famous individuals.
Tristan skilfully uses his exceptional culinary experience when crafting the menu for KYN's cherished residents. His recipes strike a careful balance between fiber and protein, which is essential for maintaining overall health, particularly in the later years of life. One notable aspect of Tristan's approach is his emphasis on using fresh and seasonal ingredients. Tristan understands the value of seasonal produce. He ensures that the menus at KYN Bickley change with the seasons, which not only aligns with his culinary philosophy but also represents an economic and practical way to make sure that the food served is as nutritious as possible.
